Man Gets 6 Years For Threat To Judge

Joseph Aguilera • Sep 25, 2011

A Houston man was sentenced Thursday to almost six years in prison for threatening a federal judge.  U.S. District Judge Xavier Rodriguez imposed the 70 month sentence on John Wesley Manning who admitted in April that he sent a letter to U.S. District Judge Orlando Garcia saying, you are going to pay big time for throwing out a lawsuit that manning had filed.

Manning who has a history of filing suits, sued the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and claimed among other things, that food at the Garza Unit in Beeville sickened him and other inmates.  Manning was serving a state prison sentence for theft at the time.

Garcia rejected the suit as frivolous and manning responded with a letter in April 2010 saying Someone is going to fix it where you can’t mess over the smaller people by blowing your brains out which you deserve it.

Making threats is always serious, but when the threats are made against a federal judge the authorities will come after you will all of the governments resources.  For that reason you need to hire an experienced criminal defense lawyer with the resources to fight the government.
